Past Advocacy Activities
- In 2003, BMA participation in the USFS West Magnolia Travel Management plan resulted in the designation of 12 miles new mountain biking trails near Nederland.
- In 2004, BMA played an active role in the development of the City of Boulder's Visitor Management Plan, providing a mountain bike representative to the Community Group Forum and participating in many public meetings. The resulting final Visitor Master Plan contains important new commitments to improve and increase mountain biking access to city open spaces.
- In 2005, BMA was instrumental in getting an second loop trail and a northern connecting trail added to the County's Heil Valley trails. The updated plan adds 7 miles of new trails and a connection to Lyons to the existing mountain bike system.
- In 2005 and 2006, BMA involvement in the City of Boulder's Marshall Mesa/Southern Grasslands Trail Study Project and Eldorado Mountain/Doudy Draw Trail Study Project led to the opening of existing trails and the designation of 15 miles of new trails for mountain biking access.
BMA Politic Actions
We organized local recreation groups to interview candidates for Boulder City Council and County Commissioners. We issued press releases detailing our candidate endorsements and our position on the city open space tax. Our views were covered by the Daily Camera and the Colorado Daily. Our endorsements and support affected the selection of new members of the city's Open Space Board of Trustees, the election of two new County Commissioners, the election of seven Boulder City Council members, and the passage of the City Open Space Tax and the County Transit and Trails and Parks and Open Space Tax issues.
