BMA Volunteers Making a Difference
on the Wild Turkey Trail
June, 2007 -
The weather was perfect. The ground was moist. The singletrack we built is fabulous! We'll be back to Heil on October 6, and we'll be building trail toward Lyons!
Once again, we exceeded BCPOS' expectations and built just about all the tread we could build. Most of what's left to build is the stonework for the bermed turns and retaining walls. Eighty of you showed up and really kicked some butt building trail. We've a map of the alignment and photos of the project at National Trails Day 2007
The wet spring has kept County trail crews off of Heil up to now; we've been told the opening of this trail is going to be late July or early August. We are considering the possibility of holding trail crew leader training classes at Heil in June and getting even more done. If we can work out the logistics, you'll read about it here first.
Thanks to REI for the food, Cutting Edge Sports and Performance Bike Shop for the schwag, Clif Bar for the tasty energy bars, and last but not least, Oskar Blues for the tasty "Special Lite" brews for the volunteers.
